When someone comes in wanting to sell our magazines, they go through an orientation process that teaches them the rules and sales strategies. During this orientation process they read and sign our vendor code of conduct and independent contractor agreement.
New vendors take their 15 magazines and sell them on public land throughout Oklahoma City. Most of our vendors sell on medians at busy intersections during the day. However, our vendors also enjoy attending events and festivals throughout Oklahoma City to supplement their income, often selling at First Friday Gallery Walk, Live on the Plaza, Premiere on Film Row, H&8th Night Market, and various other events. Our vendors also sell in downtown and Bricktown to supplement their sales.
Our vendors sell the magazines for the suggested donation of $2 each. This allows our vendors to make a profit and earn an income from their sales.
After selling their first 15 magazines, vendors return to buy more magazines for $0.75 each. This price allows our vendors to invest in their future and keeps The Curbside Chronicle sustainable.
As our vendors continue to sell magazines and earn money, we help them find housing and transition into new employment opportunities. To date, we have helped six vendors find and sustain housing!
